To start with,
the pups were too weak to suck, and she had nipples on her like prunes.
Then when she started to produce milk, there wasn't enough to feed them.
She was a difficult female to know when she was ready to mate, and even more difficult to know when she was ready to whelp.
The early signs, were her appetite dropped right off for about 4 days, then she would try and hide under things, and dig holes and rip up blankets and paper etc. She had trouble doing a poop, and she peed a lot.She also vomitted up bial. We then noticed that the dogs were sniffing her vulvur ( Fanny) when she went to the loo, and they were all interested in it. Dogs can pick up on the smell of new born pups, and are always curious.
So we took a calculated punt, and did a ceasarean, finding out that the pups were born 4 to 5 days early, but would have died within hours, if we had not done a C section.
Their skin is like glad wrap, very thin and raw looking. They will bruise easily, and can bleed just from drying them off with a towel.
And yet Snoopy is the healthiest most agile bitch here, with an excellent temperament, but just not a great breeder.

P.S. I can nearly guarantee you, this is one of the main reasons a lot of people give up breeding dogs. Too Hard
