The Shrine of Remembrance is Victoria’s largest and most visited war memorial and is probably Melbourne’s most recognised landmark.
It is a permanent and lasting memorial to the ANZAC spirit which is confirmed by the number of visitors to the Shrine throughout the year and the many people who attend the more than 120 ceremonies that are held at the Shrine annually.
It was built in remembrance of those who served and those who died in the Great War of 1914-1918 and armed conflicts and peacekeeping duties since.
The Shrine is located on Melbourne’s most recognised boulevard, St Kilda Road, just south of the Melbourne central business district
This is one of my fav landmarks in Australia, I walk up these steps every morning on the way to work and watch the hot air balloons in the sky and if I have time I walk arnd it at lunch time. I find the place very peaceful.
View from the top of the stairs looking towards the city
I agree Tam, I used to work across the road and used to love spending my lunch break on the grass around just relaxing, it is a very peaceful place

It would be hard to find too many peaceful places in Melbourne wouldn't it.
Not being sarcastic, but thats why I don't live in the rat race.
Very nice place though Tammy, and great pics. Strolling through there would give you a few minutes to relax and unwind, and to think about things other than work and city living.

I have to pull out some more photos Noel to compete against your sunny state. Victoria has some of the most beautiful places you just need to know where to go.
I know Victoria has a lot of beautiful places, I've got nothing against Victoria, it's Cities on the whole that I don't like. Brisbane included.
My impression of Melbourne when we drove through it, was a massive Industrial city. I would live in Geelong. A lot more manageable.
