I do a lot of deer hunting over the cooler months & whilst I'm out there in the rugged bush of Victorias High Country I get to see some great things that most people will never get to experience. There's many a weekend that I get out there & just take pics of deer if the freezer's full, it's just nice to be away from everyone & enjoy the rugged beauty of Victorias High Country aswell as all the animals that live in it  Cool

A short vid of a wild Brumby no more than 20m away from me feeding in the rain.

The stallion & his mares.

A wild Brumby caught on my trail cam.

My partner Emma out on a stalk with me & Brumbies in the background.

What I'm out there chasing, Sambar deer. These pics were taken on my trail camera.

I'll get some more pics up soon of a couple more critters you'll see out there  Wink

I miss the exploring side of goin bush.( Hunting)
That last photo of the stag would be a rare pic. Good one  to be in a magazine.

Thanks guys. Funny you mention that Noel, I have bit of a write up in one of the latest deer hunting mags & a few pics in there including that last pic  Smile People that don't hunt 'Sambar' deer have no idea as to how hard it can be to get anywhere near them, they're Australia's number one game animal & renowned as one of the hardest game animals to hunt in the world.

I'll get some more shots up soon.

A young stag scoping me out.

Caught this fella on the trail cam.

This cheeky bugger had been sifting through our rubbush bin on one of our job sites.

It's not often you'll see a pic like this as Sambar deer (as a rule) aren't usually found out in the open during daylight hours.

More to come.

What areas are they found in Australia.
Good looking animal.
We see Deer beside the road up near Bundy, but I am not real familiar with the different varieties. I think it was a Fallow .It was about as big as a billy goat, and had a few spots on it.Stacks of Forestry and National parks up here.
I know the chital Deer have spots too, but they are smaller hey.

Sambar are found mostly in Victoria & in NSW's S/E throughtout the Snowys'.

Those deer you've seen could well be Chital (there's a couple of small populations around QLD though the large herds live up Nth around Charters towers). It's possible they could be Fallow as Fallow seem to be everywhere these days though the majority of deer you'd find in QLD would be Red & Rusa. I seen a few Reds & Rusa when I was living in Noosa.

We used to do a bit of 4wding around Galsshouse mountains & seen a few Reds there. It's great hearing them roar when they're rutting around March-April, sound like Lions.

These photos are just spectacular!  They almost give me goosebumps, I think I'd be a bit frightened if I was that close to some of them  Embarassed
